Xiaomi may be late to the flip phone party, but it knows how to make an entrance.
After three generations of book-style folding phone, Xiaomi has decided to move into the other main type of foldable.
The Mix Flip was unveiled in China back in July, but now it’s getting a global launch. And there are a few things which help it stand out from the competition, including Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Xiaomi Mix Flip, including when you can get your hands on one, how much it’ll cost and all the key specs and features.
When will the Xiaomi Mix Flip be released?
Xiaomi initially announced the Mix Flip in its native China on 19 July 2024.
Fortunately, we haven’t had to wait too long for the phone to arrive in Europe. The phone launched globally on 26 September 2024, alongside the Xiaomi 14T and 14T Pro.
You’ll be able to buy one from the Xiaomi website in the UK and potentially third-party retailers, those a specific release date is yet to be confirmed.
As with all Xiaomi products, the Mix Flip won’t be available in the US.
How much does the Xiaomi Mix Flip cost?
In China, the Mix Flip starts at CNY 5,999.
However, while that figure converts to around £640, you’ll pay significantly more for it in the UK.
The only configuration available, offering 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, costs £1,099.
For context, that’s more expensive than both the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 (from £1,049) and Motorola Razr 50 Ultra (from £999).

What specs and features does the Xiaomi Mix Flip have?
From a hardware perspective, the Mix Flip that launched in China is functionally identical to the one that’s arriving in Europe. Here are the key details you need to know.
Design and displays
The Xiaomi Mix Flip features a sleek and modern design, available in Black, White, Purple and a special Nylon fibre edition.
It adopts a large outer screen, which Xiaomi calls the “All Around Liquid” cover display, measuring 4.01 inches. That makes it the largest outer screen we’ve seen on a flip phone so far, just beating the 4-inch version on the Razr 50 Ultra. The Z Flip 6 cover display is significantly smaller at 3.4 inches.

On the Mix Flip, it adopts a 16:9 aspect ratio, meaning many videos can run smoothly without black bars or cropping. Considering the device can run any app and a range of widgets on the outside, that makes it impressively versatile.
The outer screen itself is a 1392 x 1208 OLED panel. Flipping open the Mix Flip reveals a 6.86-inch OLED internal display with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 3000 nits, making it one of the brightest screens available on a flip phone.

Performance
Under the hood, the Xiaomi Mix Flip is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which remains Qualcomm’s latest and greatest at the time of launch.
The Mix Flip is available in multiple configurations in China – 16GB/1TB, 12GB/512GB and 12GB/256GB – though it seems like only the middle option is coming to Europe. There’s support for Dual-SIM, but no expandable storage.
Overheating is a common issue on flip phones, something Xiaomi aims to address with the inclusion of a 3500mm vapour chamber. In theory, this will help maintain peak performance during gaming and other demanding tasks.
Cameras
The Mix Flip is equipped with two cameras within the cover screen, which become the rear lenses once you flip the device open.
The main camera is a 50Mp, f/1.7 sensor, complete with PDAF autofocus and OIS (optical image stabilisation). It’s joined by a 50Mp, f/2.0 floating telephoto lens, which offers 2x optical zoom and automatically adjusts for clear images up to 9cm away from your subject.

Opting for telephoto as the secondary lens matches the approach on the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra, while Samsung opted for ultrawide instead on the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
On the inside, a 32Mp, f/2.0 sensor should ensure decent selfies, though using the cover screen and main lenses is likely to deliver much better results.
The hinge allows the cameras to be used at any angle between 45° and 135°, enhancing their versatility.
Battery and charging
One of the standout features of the Mix Flip is its large 4,780mAh battery, which is among the biggest in the flip phone segment. For context, the Razr 50 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 6 both feature 4000mAh cells.
The Mix Flip also supports 67W HyperCharge fast wired charging, with the necessary charger included in the box. However, there’s no wireless charging or reverse wireless charging.

Software and updates
The Mix Flip runs on Xiaomi’s HyperOS software, which is based on Android 14 but has quite a different look and feel.
The outer display offers a range of unique cover screen experiences, including integrated dynamic widgets and quick access to essential functions like the camera, time, weather and notifications.
In terms of updates, Xiaomi says it will offer four years of major OS updates and five years of security patches.
The Xiaomi Mix Flip looks set to be a strong contender in the flip phone market, offering a combination of large, bright displays, powerful performance, versatile cameras and competitive pricing.
