There appears to be a bug in iOS 18 where users of the iPhone 16 Pro and other models report that taps and swipes are not recognised. It is unclear how widespread the problem is, but some users are experiencing their touchscreens not responding to taps, swipes or other gestures.
The problem does not seem to be consistent and usually resolves itself after a few moments, but returns later, reports Apple Insider.
Most reports are about the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, but older models may also be affected. According to anecdotal evidence, the problem appears to be related to iOS 18.
There is no data on how many users are affected, but posts on Reddit say it is also happening on some iPad and iPhone models as old as iPhone 14. User Khaos Tian on Mastodon has shown why the problem can occur.
Some users are also reporting issues around the new Camera Control button, but it’s unclear if it’s the same problem where the touch or palm rejection temporarily blocks the button.
As it affects both the Ipad and older iPhones, it seems likely to be a software bug rather than a physical fault with the iPhone 16 Pro series.
