Samsung has unveiled its latest foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, during the Galaxy Unpacked event today. They mark a significant milestone for foldables, not only in terms of design and performance, but also in software support.
Both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 will receive seven years of updates, aligning them with the Galaxy S24 series and making them the first foldables to receive such extensive software support.

This commitment to long-term software updates represents a big step forward for foldables. It ensures that users will benefit from ongoing enhancements, security updates and new features until 2031, extending the longevity and value of their devices.
That means you will be able to buy the phone without worrying about missing out on new features or security patches.
That’s especially important for the new foldables, considering how expensive they are. The Z Fold 6 starts at £1,799/$1,899.99 (compared to £1,749/$1,799 Z Fold 5) and the Z Flip 6 starts at £1,049/$1,099.99 (compared to £1,049/$999 Z Flip 5).

This move by Samsung might also set a new standard in the industry, encouraging rivals to extend their own support.
In terms of book-style devices, the likes of the Google Pixel Fold 2, OnePlus Open 2 and Honor Magic V3 may all see improved commitments. On the flip phone side, the recently-launched Motorola Razr 50 Ultra offers 3 years OS and 4 years of security updates, though an updated version of the Nubia Flip 5G and the upcoming Honor flip phone could make strides forward in this area.
If you’re hooked on, you can pre-order the Galaxy Z Fold 6 or the Galaxy Z Flip 6 starting today from Samsung’s official store. You can also find more options in our list of the best foldable phones you can buy right now.
