Samsung has announced the One UI 7 beta program, and it includes a new wave of security improvements for Galaxy phones and connected devices.
From today, 5 December 2024, users of the Galaxy S24 series can join the beta program through Samsung Members to preview these features ahead of the full release.

First of all, One UI 7 introduces Knox Matrix, a system designed to improve device security using Trust Chain, Samsung’s private blockchain for monitoring connected devices.
The new dashboard provides a straightforward way to check the security status of multiple Samsung devices, such as Galaxy phones, TVs, and home appliances. Devices marked as ‘green’ indicate they are secure, while any flagged issues come with recommended actions for resolution.
The update also includes an improved recovery system for Samsung Cloud data. Users who lose access to a trusted device can now transfer their data securely to a new one by verifying their previous device’s lock screen credentials.
There’s a new Credential Sync feature as well, which supports the use of passkeys for logging into Samsung accounts and connected devices.
Passkeys allow users to securely sign in with biometric authentication, removing the need for passwords and simplifying access to devices like smart TVs and appliances.

Elsewhere, One UI 7 expands Maximum Restrictions, offering more options for users who need additional safeguards.
New features include the ability to block 2G service and prevent devices from automatically reconnecting to potentially unsafe Wi-Fi networks. These measures aim to reduce exposure to data interception and other risks.
Additional updates to existing tools also provide better control over Samsung Messages and Samsung Gallery.
Users can remove location data from shared photos, block certain links and previews, and prevent automatic downloads in shared albums, giving them more control over their privacy.

But it doesn’t stop there, as the update allows users to further tailor their device security. For example, they can block USB access to prevent external connections while the device is locked, ensuring the port is used only for charging.
A Safe Install system works in tandem with Auto Blocker to warn users about risks associated with downloading apps from unverified sources, helping to reduce the chances of installing harmful software.
What’s more, One UI 7 introduces new theft protection tools, including Identity Check, a feature that adds biometric verification for sensitive actions when the device is in an unfamiliar location or PIN security is compromised.
A one-hour security delay has also been added to prevent unauthorised changes to device settings immediately after suspicious activity is detected.
These features complement existing theft protections, such as Theft Detection Lock and Remote Lock, to ensure personal data remains secure even if a device is lost or stolen.
Samsung
One UI 7 is expected to launch officially in early 2025 on the Galaxy S25 series, which is also set to include new AI-driven features.
Over time, the update will be made available to other Galaxy devices as part of Samsung’s long-term OS upgrade policy.
