Samsung might be responsible for some of the most well-known Android flagships, but the company doesn’t only focus on high-end devices.
In fact, the mid-range Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34 were some of its most popular phones in 2023.
Understandably, their successors have been eagerly awaited. And with the Galaxy A35 and A55 now official, here’s everything you need to know about the cheaper model.
When was the Samsung Galaxy A35 released?
Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy A35 on 11 March 2024.
The phone is on sale now in the UK, having been released on 20 March 2024. You can buy it from Samsung or Currys right now.
Samsung has confirmed to CNET that the phone will be available in the US, but it’s not clear when that’ll be.
For context, here’s when the previous generations launched:
- Samsung Galaxy A32 – February 2021
- Samsung Galaxy A33 – March 2022
- Samsung Galaxy A34 – March 2023
How much does the Samsung Galaxy A35 cost?
Impressively, the Galaxy A35’s starting price is actually lower than its predecessor in the UK. Here’s how much you can expect to pay at launch:
- 8GB/128GB: £339
- 8GB/256GB: £389
Some regions also offer the Galaxy A35 with 6GB of RAM, but the won’t be the case in the UK. That price makes it one of the more affordable mid-range phones around.
While the phone is coming to the US, pricing there is yet to be revealed.
What specs and features does the Samsung Galaxy A35 have?
Samsung has officially introduced the Galaxy A35 to the world, so we now know practically everything about it.
Design
For starters, the Galaxy A35 features a plastic chassis with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front, providing IP67-level dust and water resistance.
The biggest change can be seen in the more contemporary front and the distinctive ‘Key Island’ raised edge on one side. The phone has a totally flat design, aside from the power and volume buttons. On the back, the phone features three cameras and an LED flash.
The Galaxy A35 comes in four colour options, known ‘Awesome Ice Blue’, ‘Awesome Lemon’, ‘Awesome Lilac’ and ‘Awesome Navy’.
Samsung
Display
On the front is a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, complete with a 120Hz refresh rate. Those specs are the same as the Galaxy A34 from last year.
However, the phone finally boasts a punch-hole-shaped cutout for the selfie camera, an improvement over the Galaxy A34’s dated U-shaped notch.
The screen’s bezels also are thinner compared to the Galaxy A34, though the bottom one is slightly thicker than the other three sides.
Performance
The Galaxy A35 is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 1380 chip, which is partnered with 6- or 8GB of RAM (6GB only in the UK) and 128- or 256GB of storage. The latter can be expanded via Micro-SD up to 1TB.
Interestingly, this is the exact same chip as last year’s Galaxy A54, with the newer A55 upgraded to the Exynos 1480.
In terms of performance, according to the latest Geekbench 5 listing, it achieved a score of 2332 points in the multi-core test. As a reminder, the Galaxy A34 received 2312 points in our multi-core test, so it could be a small step forward in terms of performance.
Cameras
The Galaxy A35 is equipped with the same 50Mp (f/1.8, OIS) main sensor that’s in the Galaxy A54 from last year.
It is accompanied by an 8Mp ultra-wide camera (f/2.2), 5Mp macro camera (f/2.4) and 13Mp (f/1.3) selfie camera. The cameras on the A54 were decent for the price but nothing special, so you can expect similar performance here.
Samsung
Battery and charging
The phone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging, though this is nothing new compared to the Galaxy A34.
Wireless charging still isn’t available, and Samsung continues to not include a charger in the box.
Software
The Galaxy A35 is powered by Android 14, with Samsung’s One UI 6.1 skin over the top.
Don’t expect the A35 to match the flagship Galaxy S24 series with seven years of updates, though.
All you can count on is up to four Android and One UI updates, plus five years of security updates. However, this is still very good for a phone at this price.
Connectivity
The Galaxy A35 supports 5G, plus Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC.
There is also a satellite navigation receiver, USB-C port, stereo speakers and an optical fingerprint scanner under the display.
