Samsung is building something of a reputation for long software support, though most of its attention is focused on high-end models.
As impressive as seven years of updates on the likes of the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, it’s also crucial that its budget phones get long support.
And if a recent report is correct, it looks like that’s exactly what will be happening. According to The Tech Outlook, Samsung will equip its next generation of cheap phones with no fewer than six major Android OS updates and six years of security updates.
The improved promise will begin with the Galaxy A16 and A16 5G, which are rumoured to launch in December. It’ll presumably also include the Galaxy A26, A36 and A56, though it’s not clear if even cheaper phones in the Galaxy M series will be covered.
If true, this will be a huge upgrade compared to the Galaxy A15 and A15 5G, which only get three major OS upgrades and four years of security updates.
That hasn’t stopped both from being among the best budget phones you can buy, so we have high hopes for their successors.
