Motorola is not slowing down this year.
First the Edge 50 Fusion, Edge 50 Pro and Edge 50 Ultra hit the market, later joined by the Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra flip phones. All these devices are also now available in Europe, including the UK.
Now, the family is gettin expanded with the regular Edge 50 and Edge 50 Neo. When will they be available, how much do they cost and what new features do the two models introduce?

When will the Motorola Edge 50 series be released?
Initially, the Edge 50 series launched on 3 April 2024 in India, ahead of its release there on 9 April 2024. The global launch didn’t take long, though – it took place on 16 April 2024.
As of 12 July 2024, the Edge 50 Fusion, Edge 50 Pro and Edge 50 Ultra are all available to buy in Europe, including UK.
The newest models in the series, the Edge 50 and Edge 50 Neo, were launched on 29 August 2024 and are also available in Europe. A specific release date is yet to be confirmed.
However, none of them will appear in the US.

The Edge 50 Fusion is competitively priced, costing less than both its predecessor, the Edge 30 Fusion, and the weakest of the previous generation, the Edge 40.
The reintroduction of the Ultra model has also increased maximum prices a little. The Edge 50 Pro is no longer the most powerful in the series and its price has been reduced relative to the Edge 40 Pro.
The Edge 50 Ultra will cost you an extra £150 compared the Pro model from last year. However, its price is still less than the £999 Pixel 9 Pro and £1,249 Galaxy S24 Ultra, which will be the main rivals to the Edge 50 Ultra in terms of AI features.

What specs and features does the Motorola Edge 50 series have?
As the Edge 50 series has now been officially revealed in Europe, we have confirmed specs for all five phones. Here’s what you can expect from them.
Motorola Edge 50 Pro
The Edge 50 Pro has a sleek design with contoured edges, an aluminium frame and options for vegan leather or pearl finish. It also boasts an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
On the front, it sports a near-borderless 6.7-inch 144Hz pOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and HDR10+. It also includes a peak brightness of 2000 nits and Pantone-validated colours for enhanced accuracy. Notably, it includes a 50Mp front-facing camera with autofocus and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

On the rear, there’s a 50Mp main camera with OIS, 10Mp telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom and 13Mp ultrawide lens which doubles as a macro camera for close-up shots.
It offers video capture at maximum of 4K UHD in 30fps or FHD resolution in either 60- or 30fps.
The handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, which is paired with 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 512GB of UFS 2.2 onboard storage. It also has a 4500mAh battery and fast charging capabilities, including 125W wired and 50W wireless charging.

The Edge 50 Pro weighs 174.9g and measures 161.9 x 73.1 x 7.9mm. Available in Black Beauty and Luxe Lavender colours as standard, it also offers a limited edition Moonlight Pearl variant designed by company Mazzucchelli 1849.
In terms of updates, Motorola promises to provide three years of Android version upgrades and four years of security updates.
Motorola Edge 50 Fusion
The Edge 50 Fusion is a more budget-friendly option that still offers premium design with its curved 6.7-inch Full HD+ pOLED display and 144Hz refresh rate. It’s also durable, thanks to the IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and Gorilla Glass 5 on the front.
However, it drops down to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset paired with either 8- or 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128-, 256- or 512GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage.
On the rear, it also boasts a slightly stripped-down camera setup of 50Mp main camera with OIS and 13Mp ultrawide lens, while on the front there’s a 32Mp selfie camera.
The phone offers video capture at UHD in 30fps or FHD in both 30- and 60fps.

The Edge 50 Fusion has a 5000mAh cell. Motorola says it offers over 30 hours of battery life, but doesn’t say anything about charging speeds.
Weightning 174.9g and measuring 161.9 x 73.1 x 7.9mm, the phone is available in Forest Blue, Hot Pink and Marshmallow Blue colours, all featuring a textured back, with the latter having a vegan leather finish.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra
The most packed of the three, the Edge 50 Ultra features a thin sandblasted aluminium frame, Gorilla Glass Victus and IP68 rating for even better protection.

On the front, it boasts a 6.67-inch Super HD pOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 2500 nits. There’s also a 50Mp selfie camera with autofocus.
On the rear, the Ultra model has a 50Mp main camera, 50Mp ultrawide lens and 64Mp telephoto lens, all with OIS and autofocus features, along with a triple-LED flash.

The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 paired with 12- or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB or 1TB of UFS 4.0 built-in storage. When it comes to charging, the Edge 50 Ultra has a 4500mAh battery with support of 125W wired charging and up to 50W wireless charging. It also features a 10W wireless power sharing.
The device will be available in three colours, including Peach Fuzz and Forest Grey (both being vegan leather) as well as Nordic Wood. It weights 197g and measures 161.09x 72.38 x 8.59mm, making it the heaviest of the three, despite having a slightly smaller screen and battery.

Motorola Edge 50
The regular Edge 50 combines sleek aesthetics with robust durability, making it the world’s slimmest smartphone with IP68 MIL-810H military-grade certification.
The device features symmetrical curves, soft vegan leather, and vegan suede finishes. It is available in three distinct colours: Jungle Green, Koala Grey, and Peach Fuzz (the Pantone Color of the Year 2024). The smartphone is also protected by scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 5.
The phone boasts a nearly borderless 6.7-inch pOLED display with a 1.5k Super HD+ resolution. The screen supports over a billion colours, offers infinite contrast, and includes HDR10+ brightness support for enhanced visual experiences. It’s also paired with Dolby Atmos stereo speakers.
The Motorola Edge 50 is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Accelerated Edition, promising high performance with advanced AI features, 5G connectivity, and Wi-Fi 6E support. The phone comes with up to 512GB of storage and up to 12GB of RAM.
The main camera features Sony’s LYTIA 50Mp sensor combined with Moto AI, enhancing low-light performance and overall image quality. It includes a 10Mp telephoto lens with 3X optical zoom and 30X super zoom, a 13Mp ultrawide lens for capturing expansive scenes, and a macro vision lens for detailed close-ups.
The camera system also benefits from Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and adaptive stabilisation for video. The phone offers additional features like Long Exposure mode, enabling users to capture moving water or light trails more easily.
The Edge 50 is powered by a robust 5000mAh battery, with Motorola claiming it can provide all-day power to support users’ activities.
When it’s time to recharge, the 68W TurboPower charging technology delivers a full day’s power in just 15 minutes, according to the brand. The device also supports 15W wireless charging, offering additional convenience for users on the go. However, there’s no charger of any description in the box.
The phone ships running Android 14, with Motorola offering two years of OS updates and three years of security patches.
Motorola Edge 50 Neo
The Motorola Edge 50 Neo boasts a stylish design with premium materials, including vegan leather and vegan suede.
Unlike the regular Edge 50, which has a curved display, the Edge 50 Neo offers a more compact form factor, catering to users who prefer a smaller device. It is available in four distinct Pantone-curated colours: Poinciana, Lattè, Grisaille, and Nautical Blue.
Like its counterpart, the Edge 50 Neo is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance and meets MIL-STD-810H military standards, ensuring it can withstand extreme conditions.
The Motorola Edge 50 Neo is equipped with a 6.4-inch pOLED display, offering a Super HD (1220p) resolution. This display supports over one billion colours, provides infinite contrast, and includes HDR10+ brightness support, all of which should help the viewing experience. The screen supposedly delivers 13% more resolution than the Edge 40 Neo.
The phone is powered by the MediaTek 7300 chipset, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and features RAM Boost technology. The device also supports 5G connectivity and Wi-Fi 6E.

Additionally, the device supports 15W wireless charging, providing extra convenience for users on the go. According to the Motorola, the efficient MediaTek 7300 chipset ensures that the device can maintain all-day battery life, even during intensive use.

Software and Moto AI
All phones in the series are available out of the box with Android 14 and newly redesigned Hello UX, Motorola’s Android skin. However, its biggest upgrade is moto AI, which brings artificial intelligence to compete with the likes of Samsung and Google.
It offers extra customisation, intuitive gestures, Family Space for kids, and Moto Secure for comprehensive security settings. It also introduces the Smart Connect feature for seamless integration across Lenovo and Motorola devices, offering a true multi-device experience. This includes support for external displays and easy data synchronisation.
It also introduces Photo Enhancement Engine to the Edge 50 Ultra, powered by AI, which helps in taking perfect photos by combining settings from multiple shooting modes.
It fine-tunes images for optimal detail, clarity, highlights, shadows, colour and bokeh. New features such as Adaptive Stabilisation can dynamically adjust stabilisation levels, while Auto Focus Tracking keeps subjects in focus. Action Shot optimises low-light photos and Long Exposure enables creative motion capture without the need for dedicated camera gear.
