At the same time as it launched new Mate 70 and Mate X6 phones in China, Huawei announced that its new Harmony OS Next operating system no longer contains any code from Android.
The first version of Harmony OS was released in 2019 as a result of the US sanctions against Huawei, but until now the system has contained some open-source code originally developed for Android.
That changes with Harmony OS Next, a major new version of Huawei’s operating system. As Engadget reports, it’s said to offer up to 40% higher performance than its predecessor.
As for the Mate 70 and Mate X6, they’re both on sale now in China, but it’s unclear at the time of writing whether they will get a global launch.
