Huawei is a regular at IFA, but the company’s more exciting announcements this autumn are expected at its Developer Conference this week.
Developers are core to the way Huawei operates, particularly in the wake of the company’s ongoing US trade ban. Android is open-source software so available to everyone, but this crucially comes without Google Mobile Services (GMS).
We’ve already heard more about Huawei Mobile Services (HMS), as well as its new mobile operating system Harmony OS and the best features in EMUI 11 – the company’s current Android skin.
Despite being software-focused, it’s also been confirmed that there will be some key hardware announcements at the next Developer Conference.
When is the Huawei Developer Conference?
The Huawei Developer Conference is a three-day event, taking place from 10-12 September 2020.
The first keynote has already gone, but the bulk of the hardware announcements will take place at the second keynote, which will kick off at 1pm UK time.

What to expect at the Huawei Developer Conference
The Huawei Developer Conference is essentially the company’s answer to WWDC, so it’s generally software-focused.
Huawei has already given more information on HMS (Huawei Mobile Services) version 5.0, which includes EMUI 11 and mobile operating system HarmonyOS.
The broadcast will be primarily aimed at developers, with the aim of convincing them to make high-profile apps for Huawei’s AppGallery as well as the Google Play Store.
However, the company has also confirmed that new hardware will be officially launched at the event.
The new FreeLace Pro wireless neckbuds bring a host of new features to enhance the user experience, headlined by the introduction of active noise cancellation (ANC). Improvements to the sound profile and battery life make them a worthy upgrade.
The Huawei Watch Fit is also expected to get a full European rollout. The fitness-focused smartwatch is on sale in the United Arab Emirates from 3 September, but it shouldn’t be long before it comes to other markets.
We’re expecting pricing and availability information to be revealed for both products at the main keynote. There are also rumours that the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro could make an appearance.
The remainder of the event will be dedicated to developers, with forums, coding sessions and tech workshops with experts.
