Google has recently rebranded its Hangouts video-calling service as Meet and included it in the Gmail app on Android. In these days of lockdown and conference calls, it’s a useful feature that provides an alternative to the likes of Zoom and Skype.
But if you prefer to keep your apps simple and don’t like the Meet icon appearing at the bottom of the Gmail app, it’s quite easy to make it disappear. We show you how to remove the Meet tab from Gmail on Android.
How to remove Meet from Gmail app on Android
When you open the Gmail app on Android, you’ll notice that the foot of the page has two tabs, one for Mail and another for Meet. Making them go away is a straightforward affair. One that is easy to reverse if you decide you actually do want Meet available at the tap of a screen.
To remove Meet, tap on the three lines in the top-left corner to open the app menu. Scroll down to the bottom of the list until you find Settings, then tap on it.
On the next page you’ll be presented with various options, but the one you need to select is your Gmail address, so tap that to open up the next options.
Scroll down until you find the Meet section. In here you’ll see two settings: Show the Meet tab for video calling and Send more diagnostic info.
Tap the box on the former, obviously. With that done, return to the main Gmail page and the Meet tab should now be history.
If you want to bring it back, just repeated these steps and tap the Show the Meet tab for video calling option once more.
